A sofa cum bed has to do two jobs honestly: sit well every day, and sleep well the few nights a month guests stay. Most disappointment comes from a unit that only does one of them.
We build both pull-out and fold-down conversions. Pull-out mechanisms give a flatter sleeping surface; fold-down designs are simpler and take up less depth when closed, which helps in a room that doubles as a study.
Storage under the seat is worth asking about if the sofa is going into a guest room, since bedding has to live somewhere. We size the compartment around what you actually plan to keep in it.
